Rich C. Ko passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 5th, 2025, in O’Fallon, Illinois, at the age of 78. Born on August 25, 1946, in Little Rock, Arkansas, raised in Memphis and living across the world, he lived a life of service and distinction.
Rich served his country with honor as a Chief Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force and was a proud Vietnam Veteran with thirty years of military service. His career in the military and his life were equally marked by commitment, integrity, and an unwavering sense of duty.
In 1971, while on assignment in Taipei, Rich met the love of his life, Jen, and in 1976, they welcomed their only child, Vincent. From there, they traveled the world together living in the United States, Greece, England, and Germany, building a life full of special memories and lasting relationships. Following his retirement from the Air Force, Rich continued as a civilian working for SAP where he was respected for his expertise and work ethic.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Rich loved cars and doing anything mechanical. He loved fishing but was clumsy with a rod and reel, was frugal yet generous to anyone in need, and he was a charming introvert who found joy in sharing stories, guiding others with his wisdom, and most importantly, spending time with those he loved. His kindness, integrity, and generosity left a lasting mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ah Sing Ko and Ngan Oy Ko; his sisters Nui Yung and Daisy; and brothers, George, Roger, and Jimmy.
Rich is survived by his beloved wife, Jen Ko; his son, Vincent Ko, and daughter-in-law, Michelle; two grandchildren, Tyler and Elizabeth; and special niece Sylvia Wang. He also leaves behind his sister, Annie, brother, Johnny, and many dear family and friends, who will forever cherish his memory.
A visitation will be held at Lake View Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens at 5000 N Illinois St, Fairview Heights, IL 62208, on Monday, February 17, 2025, from 4:00-7:00pm.
Funeral service will follow on February 18, 2025, at 11:00am, with an additional visitation one hour prior to service. He will be laid to rest with full military honors at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, 2900 Sheridan Rd, St. Louis, MO 63125.
