

Mr. Richmond was member of the United States Air Force and the American Legion. Starting out at United Press International as a news photographer, he moved quickly to become a bureau manager. After graduating from Washington University he transferred to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch where he was a feature writer and editor for 38 years. He was nominated for several Pulitzer Prizes in literature and was proud of his Writer’s Guild membership. As a younger man, he loved the adventure of diving for treasures and sunken ships and authored books on the subject. He traveled all over the world, extensively to Columbia, South America and visited St. Petersburg, Russia shortly after it was open to western visitors.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte, nee Schwoebel, Richmond; his parents, Arthur J. and Frances M., nee Visosky, Richmond; and a son, Paul Richmond.
Mr. Richmond is survived his two daughters, Leigh (Wayne) Minix and Kris Richmond-Shwetzer; a brother, Gary (James Sullivan) Richmond; two sisters, Anita Johns and Cheryl (Paul) Gothier; and three grandchildren, Kathryn (Jimmy) Lawson, Alexander Richmond, and Andrea Richmond; as well as other relatives and friends.

Funeral: Services will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Lake View Funeral Home with Rev. Charles West officiating. Interment will follow in Lake View Memorial Gardens.
