

Mr. Wilburn was recognized as a Fellow of the American Society for Testing and Materials. He received the R. A. Glen Award for his efforts in this field, as well as the Award of Merit, the highest society award granted to an individual member. In his free time, he was an avid deer hunter and he loved to collect Civil War memorabilia and anything relating to bears. Of his many successes in life, Rich always felt his greatest accomplishment was his family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harley L. Wilburn and a sister, Mary Katherine “Kathy’ Finley.
He is survived by his loving wife Kathleen Kay, nee Cheek, Wilburn whom he married on June 22, 1968; a son, Richard (Becky) Wilburn, Jr. of Edwardsville, Ill; a daughter, Christina (Brian) Martindale of Fairview Heights, Ill.; his mother, Betty M. Wilburn; 5 grandchildren, Kayla (Dillan) Neel, Dakota (Myranda) Britcher, Megan Wilburn, Joshua Wilburn, and Madison Martindale; a great-grandson, Aaron J. Powers; a sister, Janet (Glenn) Galle; and a brother-in-law, Bill Finley.
