Rita Rae Voelker, age 97, passed away on September 9, 2026. Born on November 18, 1928, Rita was a beloved and cherished presence whose gentle strength, steady devotion, and kind-hearted spirit shaped the lives of those who knew her. A faithful woman of quiet wisdom and honest character, she will be remembered with deep respect and enduring gratitude. Rita was a resident of Belleville, Illinois.
Rita’s life was rooted in what mattered most to her—work and family—and she gave herself to both with patience, loyalty, and a selfless, hard-working resolve. She met her husband at the Thunderbird skating rink in the 40’s, a beginning that reflected the warmth and simplicity she carried through life. In her later years, some of her greatest joy came from time spent watching her grandbabies, moments that spoke to the compassionate heart at the center of her family.
Though her days were often devoted to responsibilities, Rita also made room for the pleasures that brought her happiness. She enjoyed roller skating, ceramics, and singing in the choir. She could often be found at a yard sale, or on a Sunday drive with her husband Frank—small, thoughtful traditions that became lasting memories for those alongside her.
Rita’s generosity and care extended beyond her home. She taught Sunday School, offering guidance with a gentle steadiness and an inspirational example of faith lived through everyday kindness. Her legacy is one of devotion and love—a very loving mother, and a cherished grandmother who will be missed.
Rita was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Voelker; parents Arthur and Ruby (Call); brothers Bill Call and Larry Call; and sisters Melva White, Frieda White, and Eula Schmidt.
She leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Kim Laurion (Ken); son, Mark Voelker (Linda); granddaughters, Claire Gibbons (Nick), Meredith Voelker, Katherine Asselmeier (Brad), Danielle Witter (Scott); grandson, Joshua Laurion (Erin); and great grandchildren,Cade, Ezra, Nora, Juda, Alice, Esme, Atlas; her brother, Don Call; and a host of nieces and nephews.
