Robert Morris Taylor

Robert Taylor lived a life as rich and varied as the countless stories he loved to tell. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, on November 27, 1944, he was an adventurous soul and resilient spirit whose curiosity led him down every road, trail, and uncharted path.

His journey was marked by wide-ranging experiences: he served his country with pride as an Air Police Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force while stationed in the Netherlands, coded as a computer programmer, drilled oil wells across Southern Illinois, guided clients in real estate, and assisted many as a tax advisor for the IRS. In later years, he was a caring, hands-on landlord who always looked after his tenants with fairness and warmth.

While studying for his master’s degree in Industrial-Organizational Psychology at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, he met the love of his life, Hsin-Hui. Together, they built a life rooted in nature and companionship—tending their garden, camping under the stars, birdwatching, and enjoying the outdoors. An impressive marksman, his proudest hunting achievement was bringing down an 8-point buck, which Hsin-Hui happily encouraged because she loved his homemade venison sausages.

He was a walking encyclopedia of Southern Illinois lore and locations, constantly venturing off the beaten path—often with a humorous glint in his eye, searching for Bigfoot. He expressed his creativity through making homemade pies and crafting award-winning wines from whatever fruit he could forage or find, from peaches, persimmons, and elderberries to pomegranates and dandelion-white raisin. At home, he loved nothing more than relaxing with classic old movies.

A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, his faith carried him through life’s seasons. In his final years, he was deeply grateful for the loyal companionship of his friend Keith, as well as the church missionaries whose visits, helping hands, and presence brought great comfort and joy.

He is reunited in peace with his beloved wife, Hsin-Hui, and his cherished youngest son, Nathan Taylor.

He is survived and lovingly remembered by his eldest son, Robert Maurice Taylor; his sister, Carolyn Halloway of Herrin, Illinois; his nephew, John Tsau; his niece, Grace Tsau; along with many extended nieces, nephews, and dear friends whose lives he brightened with his humor, generosity, and unforgettable tales.

A Celebration of his Life will be held at Lake View Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights, IL on Friday, September 4, 2026, from 4 to 8 pm.
