Sandra Janet Haney

Sandra J. Haney, 82, passed away on July 21, 2026, with her family by her side. Born August 1, 1943, in Leadwood, MO, Sandra was the daughter of Leon and Fairy (nee Coffman) Johns. An “army/navy brat” in her youth, she grew up moving around the country, and she always spoke with special fondness of the time she lived in Florida, years that seemed to shape her love for traveling.

Sandra pursued her education with steady determination, earning two associate degrees from Belleville Area College. She brought that same hard-working, thoughtful spirit to her professional life, serving as a Licensed Practical Nurse and as co-owner of a travel agency. Sandra was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, James Haney in 2013. She is survived by her children, Kevin Haney of San Francisco, CA, Jennifer (Larry) Fowler of Caseyville, IL, and Jason Haney; her granddaughter, Jessica (Mike) Campbell of Troy, IL; and a great grandson Barrett, and another great grandson on the way. Throughout her life, Sandra remained a loyal and cherished presence to those who knew her, gentle in manner, compassionate in heart, and wise in the quiet ways that mattered most.

She found joy in the simple and the splendid: she was a life long reader and always had a book in hand, traveling, and especially going on cruises. Music and movies filled her home and her heart—she loved listening to Elvis Presley and could happily move from Gone with the Wind to classic horror films like Bela Lugosi’s Dracula. In later years, she took up sketching, revealing a quiet creativity and a willingness to keep learning and growing, even as the seasons of life changed. Her humor, well-timed, and unmistakably hers, was often the spark that lightened a room and made ordinary moments feel special.

Sandra also gave generously of herself through years of volunteer service to many organizations. A life-long member of CSA Fraternal Life, where she served as secretary. She volunteered at Cahokia Mounds as the Director’s Secretary. She spent many years at the Collinsville Senior Center, serving as both president and vice president, and ran bus tours for The Golden Kids. She was also a member of the Red Hats Society and the Business Professional Women Organizations, among others. Faithfully showing up, lending a hand when needed, and making sure others feel valued.

Her earthly travels have ended, but her greatest journey has just begun. “The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in even for evermore.” -Psalm 121:8
