

Sandy worked for the St. Louis Post Dispatch as an advertising sales manager for 37 years. She was a former member of Peace Lutheran Church and most recently a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Belleville, IL. She was devoted to her faith and enjoyed being active in church events and activities and spending Sundays after church with her "lunch bunch". She was also a long time member of the Junior Women’s Club. Sandy had a passion for gardening and reading. She enjoyed collecting recipes and cookbooks and as she would say, " I never a met a recipe I didn't like!". She loved her Cardinals baseball and was an avid fan of the KC Chiefs football team. She made sure to "sparkle" wherever she went, decked out in her "bling". Sandy was so special and loved by everyone who knew her, she had a huge heart and was passionate about being involved in anything charitable. A kind and gentle soul with a fun, quirky sense of humor. She embodied the best of qualities with her unconditional love and unending generosity. She represented the good that we all need everyday in our lives. Friends and family time were always very precious to Sandy and she will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She will be lovingly remembered by her dear niece/godchild, Connie Rae (Mike) Sontheimer; step-grandchildren, Rafe Purdy, Lorachelle (Aaron) Eck, Danielle Purdy, Brittany Purdy, Brandon Purdy and Joshua Purdy; step-great-granddaughter, Peyton Eck; sister-in-law, Nancy Rettinghouse and countless special friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Dorothy (McCuen) Rettinghouse; husband, Harold “Hal” A. Purdy; brother, Kenneth Rettinghouse; nephew, Kirk Rettinghouse; dear friend, Art Reno and beloved dog, Windsor.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2024 from 9:00am to 11:00am in Lake View Funeral Home, 5000 N. Illinois St., Fairview Heights, IL 62208. A funeral service will follow at 11:00am in the funeral home with Rev. Brian M. Robison officiating. Interment in Lake View Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Mark Lutheran Church or the Belleville Area Humane Society. A special "Thank You" to the staff at St. Paul Rehabilitation and Health Care in Belleville for their genuine care and compassion. Also, gratitude to Pastor Brian for his countless visits and hours of praying by her side.
