Stanley "Kelly" Arthur Hawthorne

Stanley "Kelly" Arthur Hawthorne, 97, of Belleville, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 23, 2022 surrounded by his family. He was born on April 29, 1924 in Belleville to Carl T. and Helen (Lang) Hawthorne. Stanley was a WWII veteran of the United States Navy and served from 1941-1945 on USS Zeilin as a coxswain. He married Shirley Viehman July 15, 1946 in Davenport, Iowa. Stanley retired from Alton Southern Railway in 1985. He was an amazing woodworker, upholsterer, gardener and artist as well as an amazing husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 75 years, Shirley Hawthorne, children, Danny (Susan) Hawthorne of Imperial, MO, Jerry (Dorothy) Hawthorne of Xenia, IL and Sherry (Steven) Hargan of Marissa, IL; grandchildren, Kimberly (Todd) Metze, Lori (Shane) Stewart, Cindy (Scott) Beyer, Zachary (Erica) Hawthorne, Tasha Callister, Aaron (Sally) Hargan, Chris (Amanda) Hargan and Josh Hargan; great-grandchildren, Garin Metze, Brandyn Tagg, Sam Beyer, Olivia Sterkel, Mason Horn, Zachary Hawthorne II, Chelsie (Jon) DeRossett, Parker, Connor, Annalyn Hargan, Jude and Eleanor Hargan; great-great-grandchildren, Tilly and Kora Metze and Adler DeRossett; sister, Colleen (Bob) Willey; many nieces, nephews, cousins and lots of special friends. Preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Hilda (Bill) Whipka and Elsie (John) Kernan and great-granddaughter, Abigale Hargan.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at 2:00pm in Lake View Funeral Home, 5000 N. Illinois St., Fairview Heights, IL 62208 with visitation from 10:00am until time of service. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Cardinal Glennon Hospital or Hospice of Southern Illinois.
