

Bill was born December 23, 1945, in Washington D.C., to William Blagrove and Carolyn (Dacey) Bergen.
He married his beloved wife, Judith (Maxwell) Bergen on October 26, 1968 at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Notre Dame, IN. Together, they shared 57 years of marriage. Judith survives and resides in Belleville, IL.
Also surviving are his children, Kara Marie (Scott) Stegman of Castle Pines, CO and Kristopher John (Jessica) Bergen of Morrison, CO; daughter-in-law, Helga Bergen of Larkspur, CO; his grandchildren, Jackson William and Mallory Ann Stegman, Penny Lane and Jude Dude Bergen and Nolan Matthew and Milan Noelle Bergen; siblings, Carolyn (Fulvio) Gentili of Florida, Kathleen (Christopher) Barry of Massachusetts, and Jack (David Fontaine) Bergen of Massachusetts.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, and his son, William Matthew Bergen.
Bill proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for over 50 years and graduated from Notre Dame in 1967 with a degree in History and Math. He accumulated many awards and accolades over the years he was working. Bill set the bar for hard work ethic and instilled that in his children and everything that he did each day.
Bill enjoyed long bicycle rides and did many trips on his bike with RagBria (3x), Hilly Hundred in Bloomington, Indiana and riding in the mountains in Colorado. He loved visiting Colorado with Judy and visiting Colorado Springs, Vail and other mountain towns. He loved taking “Bug” to Olive Garden and Red Lobster on every Sunday. Bill loved planting geraniums and working on the yard. He loved more than anything spending time with his six grandchildren and loved getting ice cream, watching them playing sports, and just being “Papa” to them. Bill also was an avid gym guy and worked out daily.
A funeral service for Bill will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at Lake View Funeral Home, 5000 N. Illinois St., Fairview Heights, IL 62208.
Guest are invited to arrive starting at 10:15 A.M. in preparation for the service. A private family visitation will be held prior to the service.
Private Family Interment will be held at a later date at Pikes Peak National Cemetery in Colorado Springs, CO.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
