Mr. Slaton began his career with the railroad in 1960, with B & O; and retired in 1998, with CSX Railroad. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 361, in Mascoutah, Illinois and served as Officer Inside Guard with the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Shiloh, Illinois. He was on the St. Clair County Bank Pool League and Eagle’s washer leagues. He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, nature walks, and hunting for mushrooms. He also loved bluegrass music and Western movies.
He was preceded in death by parents, Edgar E. and Jessie Pearl, nee Baugh, Slaton; and two brothers, Edgar Eugene and Edward James Slaton.
Surviving are his loving wife of 53 years, Sharon Slaton, nee Laughlin, of Shiloh, Illinois; his children, William (Kimberly) Slaton, of Swansea, Illinois, Joanna (Jerry) Dixon, of Hondo, Texas, and Edgar (Connie) Slaton, of Swansea, Illinois; his grandchildren, Bridgette (James) Kron, Bailee Vander Pol, Thomas Vander Pol, Ashley Slaton, Brooke Slaton, and Lauren Slaton; and a great grandson on the way; his sisters-in-law Joyce Slaton, of Burkburnett, Texas, Bonnie Slaton, of Eminence, Missouri, and Priscilla Slaton, of Eminence, Missouri; and many nieces, nephews , other relatives, and friends.

Funeral: Services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, June 9, 2012 at the funeral home, with Rev. Charles West officiating. A
Masonic Rite will be held at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, before the funeral service. Interment will be held in Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, Illinois.
