Denise, affectionately known as "Beanie" to her friends and family, graced this world on May 20, 1951, at St. Ann's Hospital. She was a vibrant soul who touched the lives of many with her infectious laughter and unwavering spirit. Denise's path began at West Tech High School and it was during those formative years that she met her high school sweetheart, John, who attended West High. Denise graduated from West Tech Highschool in 1969. In her early career, Denise found herself in the claims department at Tom Unik Insurance which she enjoyed. Later, she took on the role of a secretary at Ohio Bell.
Denise and John got married on August 6,1977, and together, they ventured into new horizons. They proudly established Cleveland's first coed gym, Black's Health World, where Denise managed the administrative tasks and eventually embraced her passion for personal training. For over 25 years, they fostered a thriving community within their gym, creating cherished memories and forging lifelong friendships.
In the face of adversity, Denise exhibited unwavering strength and resilience. At the age of 50, she was diagnosed with breast cancer, but she refused to let it define her. With determination, she underwent treatment and beat cancer. Throughout her life, she encountered numerous chronic illnesses, yet she approached each challenge with a positive attitude, never allowing it to dim her radiant spirit. Denise had a zest for life that was unmatched. She cherished her role as a mother to her girls above all else, pouring love and guidance into their lives. Her vivacious personality made her the life of every party, leaving everyone in tears of laughter with her sense of humor. She enjoyed spending quality time with her loved ones, especially her YaYas.
At the age of 70, Denise faced her greatest battle yet when diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer. The prognosis was bleak, but she refused to surrender. Guided by her unwavering faith in God and supported by her loving daughters, sister Deb, and husband John; she sought holistic treatments that provided her with precious months of stability. This gift of time allowed her to live life to the fullest, relishing in her passions, traveling, and delighting in the arrival of her greatest joy—her granddaughter, Lydia Renee.
