ELAINE M. VOINOVICH Loving wife, mother, and grandmother, was welcomed into Heaven on Thursday, October 7, 2021. Elaine was preceded by her parents, Charles Slater and Mildred (Jindra) Slater. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Michael J. Voinovich; children Karen (Tom Moore), Ellen (Matt Matisko), and Michael C. (Kristin); grandchildren Allison, Matthew, Michael, Ben, and Lauren.

Elaine grew up on Cleveland’s west side. She was valedictorian in her graduating class at Saint Joseph Academy. She graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics from John Carroll University, being one of the first women to receive a degree from JCU when it was still an all-male school (women were allowed to take night classes, and only with special permission). Elaine always considered herself a “Carroll Man.” After marrying Mike, they lived on Cleveland’s east side, later moving to a home in Fairview Park, where they lived together over 50 years, and raised three children.

Elaine used her math degree to help numerous students over the years in elementary, secondary and college levels, as a math tutor. She was also, for 26 years, treasurer of Birthright of Cleveland. Elaine served as president of the Fairview Park Junior Women’s Club. She loved to play bridge, playing in several bridge groups. Elaine was an accomplished pianist, and in later years, took up the violin. She was an active member of St. Angela Merici Parish for over 50 years, serving on numerous committees, and for many years, she scheduled Ministers to bring the Eucharist to the homebound.

Visitation will be Sunday, October 10, at Corrigan Craciun Funeral Home, 20820 Lorain Road, Fairview Park, from 3-8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, October 11, at Saint Angela Merici Catholic Church, 20970 Lorain Road, Fairview Park, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery, Valley City.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Elaine’s name may be made to Birthright of Cleveland.

Dear Mike,

My sincere sympathy and prayers for you and your family on the death of your beloved wife, Elaine. She certainly lived a generous and caring life! The two of you must have made quite a team. I had to smile when it was mentioned that she considered herself a "Carroll man." What a wholesome sense of humor! God be with you all at this difficult time.

Much love, prayers too,

Sister Mary Lisa Novak, SND

Mike, Karen, Ellen and Michael,
We were so saddened to learn of Elaine's death! Colleen & I have been in Michigan since Thursday and returned today when we learned the sad news!

We greatly regret not being able to express our condolences to you personally and to attend her funeral mass! She was a wonderful person, always so kind and helpful to us both in our activities at St. Angela's. We've also many fine memories of her from our Fairview Junior Women's Club days!

I know you all will draw heavily on your Faith during these coming days and months. May it sustain you all! Please count on our thoughts and prayers! Sincerely,
John and Colleen Dunn

While working full time and attending the Weekend College at Notre Dame College to earn my B.A., I was fortunate enough to be awarded a scholarship from the Fairview Park Junior Women's Club. Elaine came to my home to present it to me and I was so grateful. We often saw each other at St. Angela Merici as well, and every exchange I had with her was a pleasant one. My heartfelt sympathy to all who knew and loved her. As our Jewish friends would say, "May her memory be a blessing to you."
