He was born in Holland, the son of the late John and Pauline (nee Caspers) VandenBerg. Jack was the beloved husband of 59 years to Norma (nee Mahnke); loving father of Laura (Scott) Smirz and Karen (David) Toke; cherished grandfather of Rachel (Tim, deceased) Krezman, Emma Smirz (Laura Jr. Plas), Amanda (Michael) Morris and great-grandfather of Sawyer Morris; dear brother of Johanna (Arnold, deceased) Reekers, Jayne (Alan) Rembielak and the late Margaret (John) Wilkens, Harry (Maryann), Mary (Jack) Neelands, Petronella Benton, Pauline Hollmann, John (Sue), Leo and Tony; brother -in-law to Mary, Bob Benton, Max Hollmann, Loretta and Cheryl; adored uncle of many nieces and nephews in the USA and Canada.
Jack immigrated to Canada with his family in 1948 and later settled in the United States in 1958. A proud U.S. Air Force veteran, he carried a deep sense of dedication and patriotism throughout his life. Jack obtained his US citizenship during his enlistment. He found great joy in the outdoors, especially fishing and deer hunting in West Virginia. An avid bowler, he cherished the camaraderie and competition the sport brought. Above all, Jack treasured time with his family. His nieces lovingly remember him for his warm heart and the unforgettable hugs he was known for—comforting, genuine, and filled with love.
The family will receive friends on Monday, October 20, 2025 from 4PM-8PM with a funeral service at 730PM at Corrigan Craciun Funeral Home, 20820 Lorain Rd., Fairview Park, Ohio. A graveside service with US Air Force honors will be held on Wednesday, October 22nd at 10AM at Evergreen Cemetery, 29535 Center Ridge Rd., Westlake, Ohio
