

JULIA KUNES, died Monday evening surrounded by her family after a courageous struggle with cancer. Dearly beloved daughter of Robert (Beck) Kunes and Anita Nonneman; cherished sister of Jason and Jennifer Kunes; beloved granddaughter of the late William and Ella Kunes and Frederick and Julia Nonneman; beloved niece of Roger (Mary) Kunes, Tom (Kathy) Kunes, Dan (Betty) Kunes, Elaine Nonneman, and Lois (Joseph) Agnello; dear cousin of Bill (Hilary) Kunes, Roger (Amy) Kunes, Mary (Micheal) Moran, Laura (Tim) McVay, and Brian Kunes. Along with many longtime friends, Julia is survived by her beloved cats, Buster, SiSi, Sonny and Fredo who have been lovingly adopted by her Aunt Lois and Uncle Joe. Julia was a lifetime friend to all animals, loved travel and was very faithful in preserving our family traditions, especially at holiday gatherings. After graduating from Lakewood High School, she spent a year with a family in Portugal and six months with a family in Denmark through the AFS program. She and her sister Jennifer volunteered for four months in Cape Town, South Africa assisting in various educational programs and at a shelter for homeless teenage girls. Her travels continued throughout her lifetime. Julia attended the University of Cincinnati and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Cleveland State University in 2004. She was captain of her tennis team for three years through River Oaks Racquet Club, where she served as a mentor and friend to her fellow players. Until very recently, she served as President of the Frederick and Julia Nonneman Charitable Foundation. She was a loyal friend to many and will be missed by those here and around the world. Mass of Christian Burial, Saturday, May 28, at 10 a.m. in St. Christopher Church, 20141 Detroit Rd. Interment Lakeview Cemetery.
