Laura C. Ross

July 12, 1917November 16, 2012

Laura Clark Ross age 95, a long-time resident of Fairview Park who grew up in Rocky River, died on Friday, Nov. 16th, at home. She was the daughter of Everett Murray Clark and Myrle Evelyn Percy Clark, and was preceded in death by her sister Mrs. Howard (Madge) Hall. After graduating from Rocky River High School, Laura attended Ohio State University, where she joined Chi Omega sorority. After her freshman year, she transferred to Western Reserve University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in geology. At Western Reserve, she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and graduated magna cum laude. For decades she was a caregiver to her late husband Logan, who battled multiple sclerosis until his death in 1995. She nonetheless found time to help the Fairview Park Junior Women’s Club, of which she was a founding member, organize a program at the Fairview High School pool to teach handicapped children to swim. As a certified water safety instructor, she continued to provide program leadership. Several years ago, the American Red Cross honored her for 30 years of volunteer service. A member of Rockport Methodist Church for nearly 60 years, she was active as a trustee, serving on the finance committee, and as a Stephens Ministry lay crisis counselor. Survivors include sons Robert C. (and Karen) Ross of Pinecrest, Florida, and Richard A. Ross of Thousand Oaks, California; grandchildren Christopher, Mark, Brett and Travis; and great-grandchildren Mason, Tyler, Isabella and Miles. After Logan’s death, she traveled extensively and particularly enjoyed her role as number one fan of Brett, then a nationally ranked tennis player. Memorial Service Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 2PM at Rockport Methodist Church, 3301 Wooster Road, Rocky River. Interment Lakewood Park Cemetery at later date. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the National MS Society, Ohio Buckeye Chapter, 6155 Rockside Road, Suite 202, Independence, OH 44131.

Dick, I heard of your mother's passing from Ron Mercer. Your mother was such a class act. She was kind and compassionate and had a great sense of humor too. She had a very long and full life and gave much of herself to others. She was always so positive!!

I was so sorry to hear of Laura's passing. She was a very classy, intelligent lady who impressed me quite favorably every time we met. I am glad that she was able to keep her independence and dignity to the end. I was blessed to have known her.
