With heavy hearts and deep love, we remember Madeline Ann Pahler, who passed away peacefully on April 13, 2026, at the age of 82. Born on March 14, 1944, in Cleveland, Ohio, Madeline made her home in Fairview Park, where she built a life centered on family, faith, and kindness.
Madeline was the cherished daughter of the late George and Rosemary (Champion) Elwell, and the devoted and loving wife of 61 years to her beloved husband, James P. Pahler. Together, they created a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and countless memories.
She was a proud and caring mother to Lisa Sugaski (T. Cary), Laura Knotts (Steve), and Sarah Stump (Josh), who will forever carry her love in their hearts. Her greatest joy was being a grandmother to Brendan Csire, Jacob Csire, Gabriella Csire, Grace Sugaski, Rileigh Knotts, Devon Knotts, Reese Knotts, Christian Popovich, Katelyn Manley, Julianna Stump, and Patrick Stump, and she held a special place in her heart for her late grandson, Joshua Stump Jr. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she treasured every moment spent with them.
Madeline was a loving sister to Donna Brennan (Kelly), Joyce First (Robert, deceased), James Elwell (Nellie), Rose Erjavec (Jack), Terri Berry, Noreen Woisnet (Tim), and Lauretta Stockmaster (Paul). She was also a dear aunt, great-aunt, cousin, and a loyal friend whose warmth touched so many lives.
A graduate of Magnificat High School in 1961, Madeline dedicated many years of her life working as an X-ray technician, serving others with care and compassion. Outside of her work, she found happiness in the simple joys of life—losing herself in a good book, sharing laughter with loved ones, and exploring the world alongside Jim. Their many cruises over the years took them to the Caribbean, Alaska, and Europe, creating treasured memories.
Madeline’s life was a reflection of her gentle spirit and generous heart. She was a devoted member of St. Angela Merici Catholic Church, where her faith guided her and gave her strength. She will be remembered for her kindness, her unwavering love for her family, and the quiet, steady way she made the world brighter for those around her.
Though she will be deeply missed, her love remains woven into the lives of all who knew her.
