She was born on July 20, 1933 to Roy and Eva Shaffer in New Castle, Pennsylvania. From an early age, she was driven to work hard and strived for perfection. She studied nursing at Jameson Hospital.
She met her adoring husband, Bill (Champ!) at a high school football game and they exchanged letters while he was serving in the Air Force. They married on November 11, 1955 and moved to the Cleveland area, where they raised two sons, Tim and Tom. Together and with great pride, they built their family home in North Olmsted.
Peg had a full and fulfilling life. She was a labor and delivery nurse at several hospitals, and ended her career as head nurse at NASA Lewis’ Medical Services. She babysat her three beloved grandchildren, Emily, Sophie and Sammy and loved to take them camping and make them pancakes (her mom’s recipe). In addition to working diligently and caring for her family and friends, she loved a good project. She was an excellent seamstress and her creations included robes for baptized babies at Messiah Lutheran Church, and quilts for nursing home residents and people in need. She loved working in the garden and her flowers were an enormous source of pride. Her dogs were precious to her, and they will miss her greatly.
Peg is survived by her children Timothy and Thomas (Sharon) Ratvasky and her grandchildren Emily, Sophie and Sam. Proceeded in death is her husband William (Bill) Ratvasky and her brothers Richard, Edward and Loren Shaffer. Funeral Services will take place at 11 am on Tuesday August 10, 2021 at Messiah Lutheran Church, 21485 Lorain Rd. Fairview Park, OH. The family will receive friends on Monday August 9, 2021 at Corrigan Craciun Funeral Home, 20820 Lorain Rd. Fairview Park, OH from 4-7 PM. Out of care for each other, please be mindful of the current CDC COVID guidelines. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Messiah Lutheran Church. www.messiahchurchfairview.org
