Beloved Wife of Edward J. Synek; Loving Mother of Edward (Anna) Synek, David (Barbara) Synek, Barbara (Brian) Klag, Annemarie Synek and Carolyn (Erich) Wuerfel; Devoted Grandmother of 14 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Dear Sister of Rev. Msgr. Francis W. Carney, Rita (George) Savage, Jeanne (James) Telzrow (all deceased).
Marianne Carney was born on April 23, 1933. She left our world, but not our lives as Marianne Synek on March 15, 2021. Marianne was a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and most of all a friend that was a source of comfort to many. She enriched the lives of all those who knew her. Marianne gave of herself and she shared her talents generously.
The daughter of Michael and Margaret Carney, Marianne was a proud Irish woman who grew up with brother Francis (later a Reverend Monsignor of the Cleveland Catholic diocese) and sisters Rita and Jeanne. She attended St. Catherine’s Parish on the Eastside of Cleveland and maintained life-long friendships with classmates until the time of her death.
Her creativity and passion for sewing, knitting or quilting was evident in the stunning First Communion dresses she made, individually, for each of her granddaughters. Her creations included original designs for items like holiday runners and tree skirts that always gave that extra special feeling for holiday and family gatherings. Her talents often extended to outfits she created for herself, her children or grandchildren-even to clothes for American Girl dolls.
Marianne was a constant force and foundation on which the Synek Family was built. Always giving, she made sure that all the children attended school events, swimming lessons, caddying, Girl Scouts or Little League games. It was in her nature to balance schoolwork with fun which led to her lifetime of pride in the accomplishments of her five children (and the legacy in her 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren).
During the family’s time in San Francisco, North Randall, South Euclid, Fairview Park and Rocky River Marianne made each house a special home. Family bonds were forged as gatherings were made extra special by the meals she created with love. Later, the memories she created at holidays or at “Grandma & Grandpa’s”, family picnics in the Metro Parks or vacations by the lake will be treasured and passed on for generations. Whether it was nieces, nephews, children or grandchildren all felt her love through a smile or hug. She especially made an impact at the birthdays of her children and grandchildren when she took the time to make each one of them feel cherished or special on “their” day.
Marianne was blessed with a lifetime partnership with her husband Ed. Together, as one, they went on a journey of over 66 years that included their family, friends, church and community. Whether she was embracing her role as a catholic, wife, mother, co-worker, friend, grandmother or great grandmother her spirit always shined as a light that will not be forgotten by all that she touched.
