Mark Hughes

Mark Edward Hughes, age 65, of Cleveland, Ohio, entered the eternal presence of our Lord on July 8, 2025. Born on June 8, 1960, in Alliance, Ohio, Mark lived a life defined by faith, family, service, and unwavering love for others.

Mark is survived by his devoted wife of 31 years, Joyce Hughes (née Cooke); his loving daughter, Joy Spears (Brandon); and his treasured grandsons, Thomas and Rowan Spears, who lovingly called him Pop Pop. He is also survived by his mother, Margaret Ann Hughes (née Stith); siblings Dave Hughes (Susan), Anne Hicks Dorantes (Abelardo), Mary Geffroy (Marc), and Matt Hughes (Mindy); and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Mark was a proud uncle, a cherished son-in-law, a devoted brother-in-law, a dear nephew, and a friend to many. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Alvin Hughes.

Mark was an ordained minister and associate pastor at Mt. Calvary House of Prayer in Cleveland, Ohio, where he faithfully shared the love of Christ and impacted countless lives through his preaching, teaching, and example. He held a master's degree in religious education, which further deepened his lifelong commitment to spiritual leadership and ministry. He also proudly served in the Ohio Army National Guard for 32 years, embodying integrity, discipline, and honor throughout his military career. His service was not only a duty but a reflection of his heart for others and his desire to protect and uplift those around him. Mark was a dedicated member of his community, including serving in a treasury role and as assistant adjutant for his local chapter of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) organization. He was known for his gift of storytelling, his infectious humor, his love of trains, and his deep desire to make others laugh, even during life’s most difficult moments.

To know Mark was to love him. His kindness, strength, and faith touched everyone he met. Even in the face of cancer, he remained full of hope, joy, and grace, an enduring inspiration to all who knew him. Throughout his five-year journey with stage four colon cancer, he faced each challenge with faith in Christ, perseverance, and humor, supported by family, friends, and UH Seidman Cancer Center’s remarkable circle of individuals. Their compassion, wisdom, and enduring friendship became an unexpected and significant part of his story. In his final season, the Nivalis Hospice Care Team was a gentle and sustaining presence, offering comfort, dignity, and care.

In lieu of flowers, you may choose to honor Mark’s memory by supporting a cause close to his heart. Contributions may be made to Rev. Loubert Jean Pierre, a devoted Minister and Missionary serving in Haiti. Donations can be sent through Mt. Calvary House of Prayer and designated in memoriam of Mark Hughes.

A visitation for Mark will be held Monday, July 14, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Corrigan Craciun Funeral Home, 20820 Lorain Road, Fairview Park, OH 44126. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Mt Calvary House of Prayer, 5610 Clark Ave, Cleveland, OH 44102. A committal service with military honors will follow at 1:45 PM at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd, Seville, OH 44273. Please meet at the cemetery by 1:30 PM.
