Mary A. Hastings, lovingly known as “Aunt Sis,” passed away peacefully on May 4, 2026, at the age of 93. Born in Cleveland, she was the cherished daughter of the late Thomas J. Hastings and Mary Ann Coyne Hastings. She grew up in an Irish immigrant family amidst the many aunts, uncles and cousins, who lived nearby in Cleveland.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved siblings: Thomas (Mary Angela), William (Mary), Margaret (Stanley) Capron, and Jean (Robert) Fragazi. She is a beloved aunt of 20 nieces and nephews.
Fiercely independent and full of fun, she was determined to see some of the United States upon graduation. A career opportunity took her to Colorado and further on to California, where she fell in love with the sunshine and warm weather. She lived there for about 25 years and made many lifelong friends. They were lovingly called the “crazies.”
She was a highly regarded electronics salesperson at a time when few women entered the field, serving as a trailblazer and inspiring role model for women. Known for her strong work ethic and dedication, she built an excellent reputation through her reliability and follow-through. She always went the extra mile for her customers, earning deep respect and loyalty from clients and colleagues alike. Her quick wit and wonderful sense of humor brought warmth and light to even the busiest days.
An avid adventurer at heart, she learned to ski, took flying lessons, and rode motorcycles along Colorado’s mountain roads. She was also a self-professed “tinkerer” and enjoyed home improvement projects. She loved to travel, exploring the beauty of the United States and also traveled to Ireland connecting with family there. Her California home was always open to any family visiting the west coast.
Mary retired in 1996 and returned home to Cleveland to be back among the family. California was a wonderful place, but the sunshine was far too expensive to stay. She lived in Fairview Park in a senior apartment building and was very involved in resident activities and enjoyed family get togethers.
Mary’s sense of humor was one of her greatest gifts. She always had a good story to tell or could deliver a perfectly timed one-liner that could lighten any moment. She knew how to have fun in a way that uplifted others—never at anyone’s expense, always bringing people together. She was also a woman of deep and abiding faith. She lived her beliefs through kindness, compassion, and quiet acts of love. She loved people—in big ways and small—and left a lasting imprint on countless lives. She leaves behind a legacy of strength, generosity, humor, and deep, enduring love that will continue to live on in all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Mary’s life on Monday, May 11, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Corrigan Craciun Funeral Home, 20820 Lorain Rd., Fairview Park, OH 44126. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 AM at St. Angela Merici Catholic Church, 20970 Lorain Rd., Fairview Park. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Brook Park, Ohio.
