

Born in Sulphur, West Virginia, a son of the late Edwin and Iva (Cosner) Brown, he raised a family in Orchard Park, New York and retired to Bradenton, Florida prior to moving to Portsmouth, Rhode Island in 2010.
A veteran of the United States Navy, he proudly served his country during World War II. Prior to his retirement, he worked for over 30 years as a welder at Bethlehem Steel in Buffalo, New York.
He was a devoted member of the Holy Name Society at St. Bernadette’s Parish, Hamburg NY. Albert was known as a man who could fix or build almost anything. As a child he was known as Shine who grew up on the side of a mountain in West Virginia and spent long days outside. He always enjoyed being outdoors. Albert developed a lifelong love of woodworking and working on cars. When it came time to relax he would have a western in his hand or be working on a word puzzle. He also enjoyed traveling the country with his wife and then with his children. He was truly a family man and enjoyed visiting with his family — especially his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Albert is survived by five children, Bruce Brown of Eden, NY, Beth Koch and her husband Christian of Freedom, NY, Deborah Barandiaran and her husband Paul of Portsmouth, RI, Judith Barman and her husband Richard of Lakeland, FL, Michele Gurbacki of Charleston, WV, 19 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was the father-in-law of the late Eugene Gurbacki and brother of the late Harry, George and Daniel Brown.
His visitation will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026 from 5:00 to
7:00 PM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter St., Fall River, MA. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026 at 10:00 AM in the chapel at the Rhode Island Veterans Home, 480 Metacom Ave., Bristol. Relatives and friends are invited and kindly asked to arrive directly at the chapel no later than 9:30 AM. Military honors will be held prior to the Mass at 9:45 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his honor may be made to the Rhode Island Veterans Home (Memo Line: Activities Fund), 480 Metacom Ave., Bristol, RI 02809. Burial private.
