Alexandre “Alex” Pires, age 49, passed away Sunday, May 2, 2021 at Charlton Memorial Hospital.

Born in Lisbon, Portugal a son of the late Alberto and Laureana (Pacheco) Pires he was a longtime resident of Fall River.

A graduate of BMC Durfee High School, Class of 1990, he was a talented football player for the Durfee Hilltoppers. A talented musician, he played guitar and sang karaoke at Scottie’s Pub. Alex enjoyed spending time with his friends and being outside, fishing, canoeing, bike riding, kayaking and going to the beach.

He is survived by his beloved daughter, Juliana Pires; three sisters, Marisa Moura and her husband Pedro, Elisabeth Rosa and her husband Carlos and Cecilia Pires and her former husband Valentim Ferreira; one brother, Alberto Pires and his wife Cecilia and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Due to current restrictions his funeral service will be private and under the direction of the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, Fall River. Contributions in his honor may be made to Steppingstone Incorporated, 522 N. Main St, Fall River, MA 02720,

I will never forget you for being the person to help me around on my first day in school, occasionally running into you over the years , and then for the last three years having you be my across the street neighbour, will miss seeing you and having friendly discussions about Porto and Benfica.

In my 25 years of teaching at Durfee, Alex is a student whom I have always remembered. Both his friendly demeanor and readiness to assist anyone in need were admirable. I am deeply saddened to hear of Alex's death. May he rest in peace .
