Born in Fall River, Alice was the cherished daughter of the late Alvaro and Mary (Tavares) Rapoza. With a quiet strength and steady hands, she devoted much of her life to her work as a skilled seamstress. Her career spanned over six decades, including ten years at the former Dunmar Robes, thirteen years at the former Modern Dress Shop, and thirty-nine years at Lexcraft, where she retired in 1988. Her dedication and craftsmanship left a lasting mark.
Alice was a woman of deep community spirit. She served as secretary of the Melody Club and the O’Brien Apartments and remained a proud lifelong member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. Her faith was central to her life, and she was a devoted member of the First Primitive Methodist Church in Tiverton, where she sang joyfully in the choir.
Known for her kind heart and generous spirit, Alice found great joy in caring for others. She spent countless hours crocheting beautiful baby items and warm blankets for her family and friends, cooking meals with love, and offering kindness to her neighbors. Above all, she treasured her family, especially her great-grandchildren, whom she adored beyond measure.
She is survived by her granddaughter, Rebecca Jo Rego-Menchaca and her husband Kristopher Menchaca of Seguin, TX; her son-in-law, Joseph C. Rego, Jr. of Fall River; her great-grandchildren, Brandon Lee Cordeiro and his wife Jayde of Taunton and Brittany Ann Cordeiro of Fall River and their father Ricardo Cordeiro. She also leaves behind her step-grandchildren, Joseph C. Rego, III and his wife Amy of Somerset, and Richie Rego and his wife Renee of Fall River; two great-great-grandchildren; many step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews who held her dear.
She was the mother of the late Shirley Ann Rego, step-grandmother of the late Cynthia Ritz, and sister of the late George Raposa and Geraldine Correia.
Her funeral will be held Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter Street, Fall River followed by burial in Oak Grove Cemetery, Fall River.
