Antonio G. “Tony” Barreto age 90 of Fall River died Sun. July 3, 2011 in Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Isabelle “Betty” (Medeiros) Barreto, to whom he had been married for 69 years.
Born in Fall River son of the late Francisco G. and Maria (Riberio) Barreto, he was a lifelong city resident and was educated in local schools. He was a Navy Veteran seeing service during World War II.
He was employed as a superintendent and foreman for the former Campanella and Cardi Construction Company, and later worked for the City of Fall River at the sewerage treatment plant and drove a shuttle van for Pomerands Transit Co.
He was a communicant of Espirito Santo Church, a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council # 4753 of Tiverton, Teamsters Local #526, and St. John’s Club, and also an avid sports fan for all Boston teams.
Surviving in addition to his wife two daughters: Sandra Gosson of Fall River and Colleen Welch and her husband Robert Preston of Winder, GA., two sons Stephen K. Barreto Sr. of Naples, FL. and Michael G. Barreto of Kingston, RI., six grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. He was also brother of the late Manuel, Joseph, Louis Barreto and Mary Ann Quental.
Funeral Sat. July 9, 2011 at 8AM from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT CHERRY PLACE 178 Winter St. Fall River followed by a funeral mass at 9AM in Espirito Santo Church 311 Alden St. Fall River. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Visiting hours Fri. 4-8PM.
