Born in Fall River, on May 25, 1927, he was the son of the late Edward J. and Ann (Reilly) Burns. He was the brother of the late M. Dolores Burns, Nathan Burns and Ann (Burns) Hoversen.
Reverend Burns was ordained May 22, 1954 in St. Mary’s Cathedral, Fall River by the late Bishop James L. Connolly. He served as parochial vicar at St. Joseph, St. Louis and St. Williams Churches all in Fall River. He was Parish Priest at the former Our Lady of Fatima Church now St. Francis Assisi Church in Swansea; the former Immaculate Conception Church in Fall River; St. Peter the Apostle Parish in Provincetown; and St. Mark’s Church in Attleboro Falls.
He is survived by nieces and nephews.
His Funeral will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at 9:00AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Cherry Place, 178 Winter St., Fall River, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM in St. Mary’s Cathedral, Spring St., Fall River. Visiting hours Friday from 3:00 to 6:00PM. Burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.
