Born in Fall River, a son of the late Henry and Olive (Pereira) Powers, he had been a lifelong area resident. He and his wife enjoyed wintering in Bradenton, Florida.
A graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the former SMU now UMass Dartmouth. While attending SMU he was a member of one of their Fraternities.
He worked as a Project Manager in Electrical Engineering for the Naval Underwater System Center in Newport for many years before his retirement. Active in AA, he was a proud sponsor and alcohol counselor and remained sober for 45 years.
He loved to be in the presence of others while singing Karaoke and line dancing. He enjoyed quahogging, fishing and his most recent hobby Thai Chi.
He is survived by four daughters, Amy Carey and her husband David of Marblehead, Catherine Powers of Easton, Laura Fader and her husband Scott of Hanover, Kristen Brodeur of Tiverton; three sons, George “Paul” Brodeur and his wife Jennifer of Berkley, MA, Jeffrey Brodeur and his wife Cathy of Bradenton, FL, Mark Brodeur and his wife Brenda of Tiverton, twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
His Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday December 28th, 2021 at 12:00PM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter St., Fall River. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours will be held prior to his service from 10:00AM to 12:00PM. Contributions in his honor may be made to the National Scleroderma Foundation, 300 Rosewood Drive, Suite 105, Danvers, MA 01923. Burial Private.
