Ernest L. Watson Sr.

Ernest L. Watson, Sr., age 92, of Fall River, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 13, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Kay F. (Avery) Watson, with whom he shared 70 wonderful years of marriage.

Born in Smithfield, North Carolina, Ernest was the son of the late Ernest L. and Rhoda (Lee) Watson.

A proud veteran of the United States Army, Ernest served his country with honor. Following his military service, he built a long career working as a laborer. He was also a member of the Portuguese Liberal Club.

Ernest found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. An avid golfer, he also enjoyed fishing and cooking, but above all, he treasured spending time with his ever-growing family. He was a great cook, and his home was open to many who would gather at the table during the holidays and enjoy a great meal and company. His family was a source of tremendous pride and happiness throughout his life, and the memories they created together will be cherished for generations. During the last year of life, his daughter Brenda cared for him at home and Dad was very appreciated of the great care she had provided.

In addition to his beloved wife, Kay, Ernest is survived by his children, Craig Watson of Fall River, Jacquelyn Watson of East Freetown, Brenda Watson of Fall River, Attorney Julie Watson of Spokane, Washington, Ernest Watson, Jr. and his wife, Elizabeth, of New Bedford, and Wanda Pothier, DNP, and her husband, Francis, of Pascoag, Rhode Island; his granddaughters, Tina, Sarah, Sasha, Karah, and Alicia; his grandsons, Kareem and Markus (Nikki); his great-grandchildren, Ava, Ethan and Emeila; his brother-in-law, Robert Earl Avery and his wife, Margie, of Smithfield, North Carolina; and many loving nieces and nephews. He will also be greatly missed by close friends of the family Thomas Lapre (caretaker) and Sunni Farias (Jonathan). Ernest was predeceased by his sons, Robert Watson, Kenneth Avery Watson; and his grandson, Tyrell Watson; and several siblings.

His visitation will be held August 20, 2026 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter Street, Fall River. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial will be private.
