Faheem J. "Fazy" Assad
September 26, 1926 – October 25, 2011
Faheem J. “Fazy” Assad age 85 of Fall River died Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. He was the beloved husband of Gladys T. (Coury) Assad to whom he had been married for 63 years.
Born in Fall River, son of the late William K. and Najeebi (Sahady) Assad, he was a lifelong resident of Fall River and a graduate of Durfee High School Class of 1945. A Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Naval Construction Battalion, the Sea Bees, seeing service in Okinawa, he was a member of the American Lebanese Veterans Association Staff Sgt. Philip Sabra Post.
He retired in 1970 as a sergeant from the Fall River Police Dept., having served all divisions, motorcycle unit and retired from Criminal Investigation Division.
Active in his church St. Anthony of the Desert, he was a lifetime member and daily communicant for over 50 years. In his youth he was an altar server and read the Sunday Epistle in Arabic, perpetual member of the Order of St. Sharbel, lifetime member of the National Apostolate of Maronites, and a member of the St. Sharbel Men’s Society. He often traveled to conventions and retreats and was totally committed to these organizations.
A member of the American Lebanese Society, longtime member of the Fall River Boys and Girls Club. He enjoyed all sports and in his youth he played CYO basketball, Rough Riders Club football, played baseball for St. Anthony of the Desert Church team, and softball for the Fall River Police League. He was an avid handball player, and was a loyal Red Sox Fan.
He and his wife enjoyed visits to Lebanon, where he had extensive family and was a great proponent of his ethnic heritage and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Surviving in addition to his beloved wife, one daughter, Angela M. Martinez and her husband Dr. Dennis Martinez of Westford and Falmouth, MA., precious grandchildren, Christina A. Martinez and Michael J. Martinez, brother, Roger Assad and his wife Charlotte of Fall River, three sisters, Joanne Assad of Westport, Louise Monsour and Gloria Haddad both of Fall River, brother in law, Robert T. Coury and his wife Shirley of Fall River and several dear nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and godchildren.
Funeral Friday, October 28, 2011 at 9AM from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT CHERRY PLACE, 178 Winter Street, Fall River followed by a funeral mass at 10AM in St. Anthony of the Desert Church, 300 No. Eastern Ave., Fall River, Relatives and Friends invited. Entombment in Notre Dame Cemetery Mausoleum. Visiting hours Thursday 4-7PM.

Thank you Mr. Assad, for all the years you brought a basket of groceries to my home for Christmas for my children and I. Some years the only food we had. God Bless you on your journey, I will never forget you.
