Geraldine Franklin was born on December 20, 1924 in Fall River, Massachusetts. She was the precious child of Gerald and Matilda Franklin. Geraldine graduated from B.M.C. Durfee High School in Fall River in 1942 and went on to graduate from Boston University in 1946. Geraldine went on to get an advanced degree from Case Western Reserve in 1948. She and her family were dedicated members of Bethel A.M.E. Church in Fall River, MA for decades.
Geraldine Franklin came to New York City in 1952 and married Victor Barrow in 1954. They had two sons, Neil, born in 1957 and Clinton, born in 1959.
Geraldine Barrow worked as a librarian for the NYC Public Library system from 1954 to 1963. She became a librarian for the NYC Public School System in 1963, worked there for 27 years and retired in 1990.
In the 28 years following her retirement, Geraldine really enjoyed life and traveled the entire world. She traveled to China, Russia, Australia, Ireland, South Africa, England, Hawaii, France, West Africa, Alaska, The Caribbean, Dubai, Egypt, Panama Canal, Rome and the entire United States.
The Barrow Family has suffered an irreplaceable loss. Geraldine’s tremendous heart of gold and the memory of her loving spirit will be most cherished by her sons, Neil Barrow of Toms River, New Jersey and Clinton Barrow of Fayetteville, Georgia, her daughters in law, Robin Barrow and Colette Barrow, her four grandchildren, Nicholas Barrow, Naomi Barrow, Chandler Barrow and Christina Barrow, and her two Great Grandchildren, Braden and Drake Barrow.
Funeral services will be on September 10th, 2018 at Dortch – Williamson Funeral Services 1410 Highway 138, SW Riverdale, Georgia 30296. The final service will be at Waring Sullivan Funeral Home located at 178 Winter Street, Fall River, MA on September 12, 2018 from 11:30am to 12:30pm. Geraldine’s interment will be at 12:45pm at Oak Grove Cemetery in Fall River, MA.
