

Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late former City Councilor Leo A. Martin and Ida (Levesque) Martin, she was a lifelong area resident having lived in Swansea and Fall River. She was a graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, class of 1944, and attended classes at Bradford Durfee Technical Institute.
She began her employment with St. Anne’s Hospital in 1955 as secretary to the director of the School of Nursing and served in that role until its closing. She continued with St. Anne’s Hospital as a medical transcriptionist in the medical records department until 1991, retiring as lead transcriptionist. Helen owned and operated H&G Services, providing transcription services to area doctors and clinics from 1990 to 2008.
While living in Swansea, she served as secretary to the Board of Commissioners of the Swansea Water District and in 1979, she was elected clerk of the Swansea Water District.
She is survived by one daughter, Nancy R. Moore and her husband Craig; one son, Thomas “TJ” Holderness Jr. and his wife Brenda of Fall River; two sisters, Kathryn M. D’Adamo and Virginia A. Martin, both of Fall River; four grandchildren, Amy Cardoso, Thomas J. Holderness III, Stephan and Mitchell R. LaFond; three great-grandchildren, Landen, Jason, and Ian Cardoso; one niece, Virginia Frank and her husband Christopher and one nephew Joseph D’Adamo, all of Fall River.
Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at 10:00AM in the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Cherry Place, 178 Winter St., Fall River.
