Henrique M. Sousa

Henrique M. Sousa, age 88, of Westport, passed away peacefully at home on December 18, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Maria P. (Pereira) Sousa, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage.

Born in Bretanha, Azores, Henrique was the son of the late Antonio M. Sousa and Helena (Simao) Sousa. He proudly served in the Portuguese Army before emigrating to the United States.

Henrique was employed for many years as a machine operator at the former Quaker Fabrics. A hardworking and dedicated man, he found great joy in gardening and farming and was an active member of the Romeiros for many years. Above all, Henrique cherished time spent with his family, who were the center of his life.

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his children: Anna Sousa of Westport; Tony Sousa and his husband John Kandalaft of Fall River; Henry Sousa and his husband Abilio Marques of Fall River; and Diana Lecchi and her husband Luis of Fall River. He also leaves behind two grandchildren, Nathan Sousa and Brittany Sousa; one great-granddaughter, Priya Sousa; and his sister, Maria Isabel Fernandes of Toronto, Canada, as well as many nieces and nephews throughout the United States and Canada. Henrique was predeceased by his son-in-law, Larry Sousa, and nine siblings.

His funeral will be held Friday, December 26, 2025, at 10:30 AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter Street Fall River, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Grace Church, Westport. Relatives and friends are invited. Visitation will be held Friday from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM, prior to the funeral. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River.
