Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late William and Hannah (Kay) Emmett, she was a lifelong resident of the city.
She attended B.M.C. Durfee High School and worked as a Seamstress in the Garment Industry for many years and was a member of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers Union of America. She also worked in the cafeteria at Kuss Middle School and the Lincoln School.
She was an active communicant of the former Sacred Heart Church and was a member of their Women’s Guild and Linden Club. She was a member of the Fall River Lodge of Elks, post #118 and the Women’s Auxillary of the National Guard. An avid Red Sox Fan, she enjoyed playing Bingo and most of all spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, Thomas J. Syde and his wife Kathleen of Tiverton, William G. Syde and his wife Sue of Westport; two grandchildren, Shawn and Jessica Syde and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Melba Benoit, William, Norman, Edward, Clifford, and Milton Emmett and she was the sister-in-law of the late Barbara Emmett.
Her visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00PM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter St., Fall River. Her Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at 10:30AM in the St. Margaret Mary Chapel at Catholic Memorial Home, 2446 Highland Ave., Fall River. Relatives and friends invited. Contributions in her honor may be made to the Catholic Memorial Home, 2446 Highland Ave., Fall River, MA 02720. Burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.
