Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Anibel and Edith (Correa) Ferreira.
He graduated from Diman High School and spent his career in the mill working industry. He founded and was part owner of Phoenix Millwork in addition to spending many years working at Horner Millwork.
He was active in the Westport youth sports leagues, Our Lady of Grace Parish and the Westport Builders Association. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, traveling and summers at Baker’s Beach.
Besides his devoted wife, James is survived by his sister Dolores Ferus; his two sons, Jay Ferreira of Newmarket, NH and Mark Ferreira of S. Dartmouth. MA; their spouses Karen and Marcia; their children Jared, Jeremy, Gabriel and Nicholas and great-granddaughter Leila.
