

Joan A. (Hampston) Bullock, 61, of Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully after a sudden and short illness on May 18, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Born in Fall River, to Deborah A. Sheppard and James Edward Hampston, Jr., she was raised in Hanson and Assonet, MA. She devoted her life to her family and her vocation of nursing, helping others wherever she was.
Predeceased by her parents, James Edward Hampston and Deborah Sheppard Hampston Gallagher, she is survived by her father, William A. Gallagher, her sons, Benjamin F. Bullock (Kaitlyn) and Samuel James Bullock (Lindsay Ryan), her grandchildren, Luke Bullock, 2, and Maeve Bullock, 1 month, her siblings, Lisa H. Kaminski (David), Mark J. Hampston, Patricia Gallagher (Jose Carmo), Joy Sanfacon, Cheryl Christiansen, and William J. Gallagher, as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
She attended and graduated from Apponequet Regional High School in 1982, and then earned her B.S.N from Southern Massachusetts University, now UMass Dartmouth.
Joan has had a long and fulfilling career as a registered nurse, first at Acushnet Elementary School, then at Assawompset Elementary School, and finally as the Nurse Leader for Freetown-Lakeville Schools at Apponequet High School. During her tenure in the public schools, she earned her National Board Certification. She also spent countless hours as a home health nurse over her career, providing care and support to families in the area. Nursing was a calling for her, and she positively impacted everyone she encountered.
Spending time with family and friends, gardening, reading, practicing her faith, going to the beach, and laughing with her children and grandchildren brought joy to Joan.
She most recently attended church at His Providence Church in Swansea, Massachusetts.
Her visitation will be held Tuesday, May 27, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter Street, Fall River, MA. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial will be private.
