John M. Flavin

John M. Flavin, age 82, of Somerset, passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at Catholic Memorial Home. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 40 years, Barbara A. (Bradshaw) Flavin.

Born in Fall River, a son of the late John J. and Sarah (McGough) Flavin, he was a life-long resident of the area.

A graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, Class of 1956, he later earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Bryant College. He worked in the textile industry for many years as a production control manager before retiring in 1999. Active in local politics, Mr. Flavin served the residents of Fall River, MA as Police Commissioner and later as a board member for the city’s Housing Authority. He was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots, enjoyed family day trips all over New England and was a long-term member of the Bullpen at the Somerset Lodge. He loved a good story and enjoyed making people around him smile.

Survivors include his fiancée, Gail Crowley of Somerset; three children, Dr. Helen J. Flavin of Fall River, James F. Flavin and his wife Catherine of Auburn, MA and John P. Flavin of Fall River; one brother, Kenneth Flavin and his wife Anne of Fall River; several nieces, nephews and other members of the extended Flavin and Bradshaw families.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Funeral Mass on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at 10:00AM in St. Joseph’s Church, 1335 North Main St., Fall River. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his honor may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Rd., Waltham, MA 02452. Burial private.
