John S. Furness, Jr., age 86, of Fall River, passed away Thursday, February 02, 2017 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Jean M. (Ouellette) Furness.
Born in Fall River, a son of the late John Furness Sr. and Mary J. “Mae” (Dias) Furness, he had been a lifelong resident of the city.
Mr. Furness worked as a clothing cutter for over 25 years for Vanity Fair in Dartmouth and later at the Fall River Superior Court in the maintenance department until his retirement.
Artistically talented, he was well known for his calligraphy and his work is featured locally. He was a member of the Portuguese Republican Club where he enjoyed playing pool. He also enjoyed fishing and dancing, especially ball room dancing.
He is survived by one daughter Tracy (Furness) LePage, one son Jay Furness both of Fall River, one sister Natalie Petit of Swansea, grandson Joshua Furness and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late James Furness.
His private services are in the care of the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Cherry Place, Fall River.
