

He was born in Fall River, the son of the late Angela (Greene) Hart and James D. Hart. John was a graduate of Coyle High School and Manhattan College, NY, Class of 54’. He joined the Marine Corps in 1954 and was honorably discharged in 1959. He also served on the Promotion Board of the Marine Corps in Washington DC. After retiring from the Marine Corps he served as Commanding Officer of the 1st 155 Howitzer Battalion in Providence, RI.
John taught at Diman Regional Vocational High School where he coached baseball and basketball and served as the school’s first Athletic Director. After leaving Diman, John became Juvenile Probation Officer at Fall River District Court until his retirement in 1993.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his six children, Jayne T. (Hart) St. Pierre and her husband Paul of Mattapoisett, Stephen M. Hart and his wife Pamela of Auburn, ME, John C. Hart Jr. of Somerset, Carlin Hart and his wife Katie of Oak Bluffs, Paul B. Hart of Fall River and MaryEllen (Hart) Yalmokas and her husband Kevin of West Barnstable; a brother Joseph Hart of Fall River; 12 grandchildren, Kathryne St. Pierre Hall, William St. Pierre, Andrew St. Pierre, Abigail Hart, Jack Hart, Cadet Patrick Hart, Jennifer Hart, Kailyn Hart, Paul Hart Jr., Matthew Hart, Joseph Yalmokas and Emma Yalmokas and several nieces and nephews.
John was predeceased by his brother James D. Hart Jr. and sisters Janet Fontaine and Joan Benevides.
His funeral will be held on Friday, January 31, 2014 at 8am from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT CHERRY PLACE, 178 Winter St., Fall River followed by his funeral mass at 9am in Holy Name Church, 709 Hanover St., Fall River. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7PM. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.
