John R. Mathews

John R. Mathews, age 85, of Fall River, passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 in Sarasota, Florida after a brief illness. He was the loving husband of Carol A. (DeMarco) Mathews, with whom he shared 58 years of marriage. Born in Fall River, a son of the late John S. and Irene C. (Albanese) Mathews, he was a life-long resident of the area. A graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, Class of 1954, he served in the United States Marines for several years and later in the Air National Guard. John was a high voltage electrician at the Newport Naval Base for many years before retiring. An antique car enthusiast, John was a member of the Little Rhody Antiques Club and was life-long member of both the Elks Lodge #118 and the American Legion in Fall River. In addition to his wife survivors include: four sons, David M. Mathews, Dean R. Mathews, Douglas E. Mathews and his wife, Kimberly O’Connell and Derric J. Mathews all of Fall River; one granddaughter, Alexis A. Mathews; one great grandson, Logan J. Pacheco; brother, Donald Mathews and his wife Margaret; nephew, Scott Mathews; niece, Michelle Mathews-Crotty and several nieces and nephews.
