Born in Fall River, the daughter of the late Michael and Mabel (Sears) Simon, she was a graduate of BMC Durfee High School and was a lifelong resident of the city.
Ms. Simon was employed as a Librarian in the Fall River Library for 20 years retiring as Head Librarian, prior to that she managed the former Rolling Rock Variety Store for over 20 years. She was a Volunteer for the Friends of St. Anne’s for many years logging over 9,000 volunteer hours and receiving a citation from the City of Fall River recognizing that accomplishment. She was the first librarian to drive the Book Mobile in Fall River.
In addition to being an avid reader, gardener and walker, Ms. Simon would knit hats and sweaters for newborn children at Women & Infants Hospital in Providence and attended Bill Aguiar’s School of Self Defense where she received her purple belt.
She is survived by nieces and nephews Dolores Gerardi, Joseph Hashim, Alice Simon, Michael Simon, Virginia Tobia, Mabel Atter, Marion Muhlfeld, Lucille Hyder and the late Dr. James P. Jabbour, Larry Hashim, Elinor Hashim , Grace Henry and Florence Mizher as well as many grand and great grand nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Eva Jabbour, Fred Simon, Eli Simon, Anne Korem, Julia Wier, Alice Hashim and Betty Hashim.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at 11am in the First Congregational Church 282 Rock St., Fall River. Visitation will be Tuesday prior to her service from 9am to 10:45am in the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Cherry Place 178 Winter St., Fall River. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her honor may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
