Obituary of Lillian E. Paul
Lillian E. (Fitton) Paul, age 97, passed away Friday, February 3, 2023 in Charlton Memorial Hospital comforted by her family. Born and raised in Fall River, a daughter of the late Nicholas and Edith M. (Parkinson) Fitton she was a longtime resident of Swansea. A graduate of BMC Durfee High School, Class of 1942, she earned an Associate’s degree in Psychology from Bristol Community College and a dual Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Sociology from the former Southeastern Massachusetts University, now UMass Dartmouth. A Rainbow Girl and member of Bogle Street Congregational Church, she was a former member of the First Christian Congregational Church in Swansea and then First Congregational Church in Fall River. Lillian and her mother worked alongside each other at Submarine Signal in Fall River building components of torpedoes for submarines during World War II while she was also one of the first Candy Stripers at the then City Hospital. Active with the Durfee Alumni Assoc. and reunions, she also interned at the John E. Boyd Center for Childcare and Case High School. A true history buff, she often recalled listening to FDR’s “Day of Infamy” speech with classmates in the Durfee auditorium right after the Pearl Harbor attack in 1941. She will be remembered for her sense of humor, her gift of gab and the pride and joy she felt with her family. She is survived by one daughter, Carol Ann Viveiros and her husband John Paul Viveiros of Fall River; two sons, Brad Paul and his wife Erin Crysdale of San Francisco and David W. Paul and his wife Mary of Somerset; five grandchildren, David Nicholas Paul and his fiancée Kim Azulay, Laura Beth Lauser and her husband Ben, Nicholas John Viveiros, Alec Nicholas Paul and Abigail Elizabeth Paul; and three great-grandchildren, Anya, Lucas and Hallie. She was the sister of the late Wright Fitton and widow of the late Henry ‘Herky’ Paul of Fall River. Her Funeral Service will be Friday, February 10, 2023 at 10:00 AM in the First Congregational Church, 282 Rock St., Fall River followed by burial in Oak Grove Cemetery, Fall River.
