He was the beloved husband of Maria Teresa (Ferreira) Homem, his partner, best friend, and the love of his life for 51 years. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, hard work, and unwavering devotion to one another. Whether attending church or simply enjoying each other’s company, Manuel and Maria Teresa found happiness in the life they shared. In his final years, Manuel was most at peace when he was by her side, a testament to the deep and enduring bond they shared throughout their marriage.
Born in Santa Barbara, São Miguel, Azores, he was the son of the late Manuel Farias Homem and Etelvina (Bernardo) Homem. Manuel proudly served in the Portuguese Army before immigrating to the United States in 1975, where he settled in Fall River, Massachusetts.
Besides his beloved wife, Maria Teresa, he is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Homen, and her partner Richard Calderon of Fall River; his son Jeffrey Homen, and his fiancée Angelica Bart of Lincoln, Rhode Island. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, DaShawn Homen, Morgan Homen, Sophia Homen, Renzo Homen, Francesca Homen and many nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by his brothers, Jose Farias Homem of Canada, Antonio Farias Homem and Gilberto Farias Homem of São Miguel, Azores.
Manuel’s greatest legacy lives on through his family, especially his grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride. He also took pleasure in life’s simple comforts pastries, dining at Portuguese restaurants, and enjoying a glass of wine shared in good company. He loved fishing, traveling, and watching soccer, faithfully cheering for Sporting.
A devoted member of Espírito Santo Church, Manuel’s faith was an important part of his life and community. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, selflessness, hard work, respect, humility, compassion, and unwavering devotion to those he loved. His kindness, gratitude, and enduring love for his family will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
His visitation will be held August 28, 2026 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter Street, Fall River.
His funeral will take place Saturday at 9:00 AM at Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, followed by a funeral mass at Espirito Santo Church at 10:00 AM, 311 Alden St., Fall River.
Burial will be at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Fall River. Relatives and friends are invited.
