Born in Fall River, MA, a daughter of the late James and Florence (Arnold) Almond, she was a lifelong resident of the city.
A graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, she began her career as a telephone operator before dedicating many years as a nurse's aide at Crawford Nursing Home, where she cared for others with compassion until her retirement. She was a member of the First Congregational Church.
She found joy in life's simple pleasures. An avid reader of books on local history and the true crime genre, she never missed her favorite TV show, Jeopardy.
She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Pacheco and her husband Antonio of Fall River, MA, Mary Ellen Cash and her husband Darrell of Minneapolis, MN; five grandchildren, Sarah Farinha of TX, Michael Farinha of Barrington, RI, Victoria Pacheco of Fall River, MA, Kirstin Cash Tsoflias of CO, Kevin Cash of MN; four great-granddaughters, Abigail and McKenzie Farinha, Gabrielle and Ariana Gonzalez, and many nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late William T. Gurnett and sister of the late Thomas, David, James and Paul Almond.
