OBITUARY

Margaret Parmelee

February 2, 1942March 26, 2021

Margaret (Dillon) Parmelee, aged 79, passed away peacefully in her home Friday, March 26, 2021. She was born in Fall River to the late Edward M. Dillon, of County Cork, Ireland, and Mary C. (Farrell) Dillon, of County Monaghan, Ireland. Margaret was a lifelong resident of the city.

A graduate of Sacred Heart Academy, while working full-time Margaret earned her Bachelor’s degree from University of Rhode Island, and her Master’s degree in Nutrition from Bridgewater State College. She was a registered dietitian at Charlton Memorial Hospital for many years, after which she served as Director of Moveable Feast bringing meals and services to those with HIV and AIDS. Margaret was a talented sewer and knitter; her Icelandic sweaters kept friends and family members warm and cozy. She also frequently wielded paint brush, wallpaper paste, and carpeting tools to remodel her home spaces to suit. In recent years, Margaret was an enthusiastic member of The Second Half Lifelong Learning Institute and an avid bridge player.

Margaret is survived by one daughter, Kara Parmelee, in Washington, DC; her sister, Mary Ann Dillon of Fall River, MA; her sister-in-law Patricia (Burke) Dillon; and her two grandchildren, Aidan and Esmé Bryar. She was the sister of the late Edward M., Patrick J., and Eileen F. Dillon.

A memorial Mass will be held at Holy Name Church in Fall River on Monday, April 5 at 10 am. Due to current restrictions, her burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Holy Union Sisters, who were formative in Margaret’s early education. https://secure.givelively.org/donate/holy-union-sisters. Kara and Mary Ann,
Please accept my heartfelt sympathy for the loss of your beloved mother and sister. I enjoyed chatting with Margaret whenever I was at her lovely home to teach Eileen guitar. I looked forward to Eileen's weekly lessons which allowed me to enjoy the pleasant company of both Eileen and Margaret. May God bless you with His peace during this difficult time.

Dear Mary Ann and Dillon Family, I remember Margaret well through the Fall River Ski Club and the nice times had in N. H. Tho' she wasn't there as often as Mary Ann, she was already busy as a career woman and dietitian. Sincerely, Barbara Chadwick

Margret and I worked together many, many times. Some of her clients were my clients who volunteered for Margret. She had a big big heart, always looking to help the next. We had a lot of fun also, she could get that Irish temper up in a heartbeat if someone was being treated wrong. My condolences to the family, Margaret was loved by many.
