Born in Manning, South Carolina, Margie was a daughter of the late Frank and Ollie (Stukes) Thames.
For more than 25 years, Margie worked as a cook at the Gabriel House in Fall River, retiring in 2025. She took great pride in her work and especially enjoyed sharing her love of cooking with those around her. In her free time, Margie enjoyed fishing, barbecues, visiting with friends, and, most of all, spending time with her family.
Margie is survived by her beloved son, Tommy L. Thompson of Boston; three grandchildren, Dennis Vance of Woonsocket, RI, Layanna Stoke, and Fantasia James, both of Boston; several great-grandchildren; her siblings, Lilly Mae Gibson and her husband Dr. Herman Gibson, Jr. and Odessa Canty, both of Manning, South Carolina, Mary V. Wilson of Fall River, and Sampson Thames of Boston; as well as many nieces and nephews and her special nieces, Olana Wilson and Chantel Flowers; Brothers-in-law, John Thompson, Jr. and Leroy Thompson.
She was the sister of the late Ethan, Romey, Floyd Bobby, Albert Lee, Frank Jr., Otis Thames, Hazel Fordham and Cluttie Blanding.
Her funeral will be held Thursday, August 27, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter Street, Fall River followed by burial in Oak Grove Cemetery, Fall River. Relatives and friends are invited. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
