Born in Água de Alto, São Miguel, Azores, she was the daughter of the late Rosalina and Manuel Pacheco Tavares.
Maria was a faithful and devoted communicant of Santo Christo Parish in Fall River, where she was a proud member of the Nossa Senhora do Rosário Society. A gifted seamstress, she dedicated many years of her career to Beacon Garment before retiring in 2002.
Above all, Maria's greatest joy in life was her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose kindness, strength, and unwavering love created a lasting legacy for generations to come. She treasured every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and their growing families. Whether she was sewing, sharing stories, or simply enjoying a bowl of ice cream with those she loved, Maria found happiness in life's simple pleasures and in the company of those closest to her.
She is survived by her daughters, Josefa Estrella and her companion, David Guerrouxo, of North Dartmouth, and Anna Cabral and her husband, Manuel, of Fall River; her sons, Roberto J. Taborda and his wife, Grace, of Fall River, and Louis M. Taborda and his wife, Heather, of Fall River. She also leaves her eight beloved grandchildren, Jonathan (wife Nicole), Matthew (wife Kellie), Scott, Brittany (husband Brian), Amanda (husband Jared), Brett (wife Kait), Cody (girlfriend Chelsea), and Lexie (husband Alan); seven cherished great-grandchildren, with three more eagerly anticipated; her brother, João of Faial; her sisters, Maria de Pedra of São Miguel and Lúcia of Santa Maria, and Francelina of Lisbon; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Her funeral will be held Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at 9:00 AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter Street, Fall River, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at Santo Christo Parish, Columbia Street, Fall River. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River. Visitation will be held Monday, July 13, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.
The family kindly invites those attending to wear purple or blue, Maria’s favorite colors, as a celebration of her life and vibrant spirit. As black was never among her favorite colors, they hope these brighter shades will honor the joy and warmth she shared with all who knew her.
