Born in Fall River, a son of the late Peter Gauthier and Evelyn (Rivard) Gauthier, he lived in Somerset for many years prior to moving to Tiverton in 1958.
He was a member of the Army National Guard serving as a Lieutenant 1st Class. A graduate of Somerset High School, he received a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from the University of Rhode Island and his law degree from Boston University. He worked as a Patent Attorney for many years and was the owner and operator of the former Samuels and Gauthier.
Maurice loved reading and gardening. He had a strong interest in history and enjoyed watching old Western films. He also liked playing chess and bridge and was a member of the Tiverton Tennis Club.
He is survived by one daughter, Melissa Prete and her partner Darren Meyers of Alberta, Canada; three grandsons, Kevin Forkin of Gaithersburg, MD, Peter Gauthier of Fall River, Mark Gauthier II, of Falcon, MO; one brother, Robert Gauthier and his wife Barbara of Somerset; two great-grandchildren Desirae and Silas Gauthier, many nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Callie who provided him great comfort following Patty’s passing. He was the father of the late Mark Gauthier.
His funeral will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 9:00AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter St. Fall River, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM at St. Theresa Church, 265 Stafford Rd., Tiverton, RI. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours will be held Friday from 5:00 to 7:00PM. Burial in Our Lady of Fatima Cemetery, Little Compton.
