

Rem But “Soriya,” age 74, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. She was born on November 5, 1951 in Chhang Village, Kampong Chhnang Province, Cambodia, and was the daughter of the late Thong Vorn and Sorn Noung. Her early life was spent caring for her younger siblings and tending the rice fields.
Mrs. But spent the last 47 years with her loving husband, Heang Nim. She was predeceased by her two grandchildren, Azaliah Nim and Ja’Ahvani Butler.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Heang Nim; her daughters, Reun Nim-Branco and her husband Brian of Taunton, and Linda Nim, along with her sons, Hong Nim of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and Jordan Nim and his partner Daniel Dallas of Connecticut. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren: Nelson and Wyatt Branco; Jerron, Aziana, Ja’Saun, and Juelz Butler; and Ahmaya, Hong Jr., and Ahnaiya Nim along with many loving god children, nieces, and nephews.
During her life, Mrs. But was a courageous woman who fled Cambodia in the early 1980s. While residing in a refugee camp, she found solace in cooking and established a small eatery, where she met her future husband. They were married in 1979. In 1985, after receiving asylum, they immigrated to the United States, settling in Attleboro, and then Fall River, Massachusetts, where they made their permanent home. Throughout her life, she worked various jobs until her retirement, including at Boston Apparel.
Mrs. But was a prominent and beloved member of the Fall River Cambodian community. She generously shared her culinary talents with the Khmer Buddhist Society Temple of Fall River, Wat Udomsharatanam, where her beef sticks became a cherished highlight of Khmer New Year celebrations. She devoted 25 years of service to Wat Udomsharatanam.
She was lovingly known as “Mak,” meaning mother, because she embraced everyone she met with warmth and care, often calling them goun (child). Her love, kindness, and strength will remain everlasting in the hearts of all who knew her.
The family will be observing a week-long Cambodian funeral at the temple, 745 Highland Avenue, Fall River, Massachusetts 02720. Family and friends are warmly invited to gather in celebration of her life and to honor the memory of an extraordinary woman whose love continues to live on.
Her visitation will be held on Sunday, June 28, 2026 from 2:00 to 5:00 PM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter St., Fall River. Relatives and friends invited. Her funeral service will be held on Monday, June 29, 2026 at 2:00 PM in The Chapel of Memory and Hope at Swan Point Cemetery, 585 Blackstone Blvd., Providence, RI. An additional visitation will be held prior to the service in the Funeral Home from 12:15 to 1:15 PM.
