Robert Sedgwick Fay 91, died on August 27, 2013 at the Holyoke Soldiers Home in Holyoke MA. Born in Palmer on April 24, 1922, he was the son of the late Robert S., Sr. and Constance (Moulton) Fay. He was the sixth generation of his family to live in Monson and the ninth generation of his direct line to live in Massachusetts. Educated in Monson schools, he was a graduate of Monson Academy and was awarded a scholarship to Worcester Polytechnic Institute for an invention. An Army veteran of the Second World War, he served in the Pacific, including with the occupation forces in Japan. An engineer, he was employed for many years by the former C.F. Church Company and retired as Vice President of Sales at the former Springfield Moulders. He was a lifelong member of the First Church of Monson where he served in many capacities including Church Moderator, Deacon and Trustee. Active in local affairs he served for many years on the Town Finance Committee and the Board of the Monson Home for Aged People, was a founding member of the Monson Historical Society and was on the Monson Historical Commission. He was honored as Rotary’s Citizen of the Year in 2003 for his many years of volunteer service to the town In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his stepmother, Elizabeth (Wight) Fay, and his first wife of almost fifty years, Grace (Mizen) Fay. He is survived by his wife Patricia (Maderien) Fay. He also leaves his two daughters, Candace Erickson and her spouse Richard of Wilbraham, MA and Elizabeth Fay and her spouse Louise Gauthier of Assonet, MA, numerous nieces and a nephew. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 1:00 PM at the First Church of Monson 5 High St., Monson, MA. Everyone is welcome to attend.
