Rosemary M. "Peggy" Melvin

Born in Ogdensburg, NY, the daughter of the late Margaret and Thomas J. Moore, she attended Syracuse University for three years before moving to Fall River in 1947 where she later graduated with a B.S. degree from Bradford Durfee Tech (now UMass Dartmouth) and a MED from Bridgewater State College. She was employed by the Fall River School System as a teacher and a guidance counselor for 26 years. She served at the Spencer Borden Elementary school, the Slade Grammar School and BMC Durfee High School.

A communicant of Holy Name Church in Fall River and St. John the Baptist Church in Westport. She was formerly active in many local clubs and organizations such as: the Junior League of Fall River, the Ninth St. Day Nursery, the Acoaxet Club where she was Past President of the Acoaxet PGA, Elephant Rock Beach Club, Spindle Rock Yacht Club, Massachusetts Retired Teachers Association, Fall River Administrators Association, the Charlton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and Volunteer Program and she was a CCD Teacher at Holy Name Church for four years.

Her family was her main interest and it grew as extended family joined the group, she was a wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, a guidance counselor, a good buddy, a true friend and a “frustrated” athlete.

In addition to her husband she is survived by four children: Margaret E. Lancashire of E. Madison NH, Frank A. Crosson of Somerset, Kathryn A. Crosson of Fall River, Thomas J. Crosson of Springfield and Buckland, MA; three step-children Frances Silva of S. Attleboro, Teresa Melvin of Attleboro and James C. Melvin of Madison, NJ; four grandchildren Christopher Silva, Jack Melvin, Colin Melvin and Liam Melvin; a brother Thomas J. Moore of Syracuse, NY and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late William and Robert Moore.

Her funeral will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 8AM from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT CHERRY PLACE 178 Winter St., Fall River followed by her funeral mass at 9AM in Holy Name Church 709 Hanover St., Fall River. Visiting hours will be Friday from 4 to 8PM.
