

Ruth A. (Machado) Quental, age 84, of Fall River, passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Charlton Memorial Hospital. She was the devoted wife of Richard J. Quental, with whom she shared 62 loving years of marriage.
Raised in Somerset, Ruth was the daughter of the late John Sr. and Agnes (Gaspar) Machado. A graduate of Somerset High School, she began her career as a hairdresser before finding her calling in healthcare. Ruth worked as a medical assistant for 28 years, providing compassionate care to countless patients before retiring in 2012.
Ruth found great joy in spending time with her family and friends. She loved gathering around the card table for games and laughter, watching Hallmark movies, crafting, and making candy alongside her best friend. She also enjoyed keeping in touch with loved ones through Facebook and treasured the connections she maintained throughout her life. In her younger years, Ruth and Richard were active participants in the Sunday Night Couples Bowling League in Somerset, creating many lasting friendships and fond memories.
An avid shopper and traveler, Ruth especially enjoyed cruising and exploring new places with those she loved. Above all, she was a caring and nurturing presence in the lives of her family. Her generosity extended beyond her immediate household, as she lovingly helped raise and care for several extended family members' children, leaving a lasting impact on all who were fortunate to know her.
Along with her husband, Ruth is survived by her daughters, Karen Quental-Brown and her husband, Stephen, of Ledyard, CT, Melanie Quental of Fall River and Kimberly Quental-Aguiar and her husband, John, of Fall River, six grandchildren: Patrick J. Brown of Downingtown, PA, Meredith K. Brown of Nashville, TN, Caleb J. Aguiar of Fall River, Abigail K. Aguiar, of Fall River, Benjamin A. Aguiar of Fall River and Noah C. Quental of Fall River along with many adopted family members and friends.
Private arrangements are in the care of the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter Street, Fall River.
